Active in the sphere of experimental
contemporary music, the native born Israeli
composer Ori Talmon won scholarships and
awards, among which, the international
composition competition "Klang21" (Salzburg,
2009), the Libersohn composition competition
(finalist, Israel 2010), the American-Israeli
Cultural Foundation Scholarship for Composers
(2005-2006), successive scholarships from the
Society of Friends of the University of Music
Stuttgart, successive scholarships for
excellence from the Faculty of Arts at the
Tel-Aviv University, the Ben Bassat Excellence
Award (2006), the Buchmann-Mehta School of
Music's composition competition (Israel 2006)
and more.
His
works were performed in France, Austria, Israel,
Germany and Switzerland in festivals such as "Der
Sommer in Stuttgart" (Stuttgart, 2009), "Next
Generation 3.0" (Karlsruhe, 2009), "Tzlil
Meudcan" (Tel-Aviv 2010), Impuls Festival (Graz
2011) and the off-program of the "Donaueschinger
Musiktage" (Germany 2010). He collaborated with
performers such as clarinetists Petra Stump and
Heinz-Peter Linshalm (Duo Stump-Linshalm), the
soprano Sarah Maria Sun (Neue Vocalsolisten
Stuttgart), the soprano Angelika Luz, cellist
François Deppe and flutist Michael Schmid (Ictus
Ensemble) and more.
Ori
Talmon began his composition studies at the
Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at the Tel-Aviv
University in 2002 working with composers Ruben
Seroussi, Yizhak Sadai, Oded Zehavi and Josef
Bardanashvili and continued them between 2008
and 2011 in Germany at the University of Arts in
Berlin and the State University of Music and
Performing Arts Stuttgart with composers Marco
Stroppa and Oliver Schneller. He is currently
working towards his Ph.D. in Composition at the
University of California San Diego (UCSD), working with Roger Reynolds and Philippe Manoury. He attended master classes by composers
such as Beat Furrer, Chaya Czernowin, Steven
Kazuo Takasugi, Brian Ferneyhough and Helmut
Lachenmann and courses such as the
European-American Musical Alliance international
summer program for composers at "L'Ecole Normale
de Musique de Paris" (France 2006), the first
international composers' course "Tzlil Meudcan"
(Israel 2010), the IRCAM advanced sessions at
festival Acanthes (France 2010) and the Impuls
Academy (Graz 2011).
A
few of his works are published in Israel by the
Israeli Music Institute (IMI) and the Israel
Music Center (IMC) and a first commercial CD
with his work "Noch eine Runde" for two
bass-clarinets was released in autumn 2010 under
the label "einklang records" (Vienna, Austria).
Apart from his composition studies, Ori Talmon has
studied Organ under the guidance of Mr.
Alexander Gorin (Tel-Aviv University) and hold a
B.Sc diploma in Computer Sciences.
